Isn’t it incumbent on you to find out what type of people you are surrounded by, how they think and what they value? Chances are your child is going to be exposed to your neighbors in one form or another ...
The question is: do I want the village raising my child? ... I guess that depends on the village. ... how do you take advantage of the village without being taken advantage of by the village? ... If we stay vigilant, the village can be a tool to grow ... responsible, happy, and productive kids ...
Keeping the Christ part out of the word Christmas is like leaving pan out of pancake. The reason we call it Christmas is to acknowledge its direct connection to the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. The lunacy of refusing to say Merry Christmas as we celebrate the holiday called Christmas is beyond the pale. Should people say Merry Mas?
Hearing things from someone other than the parent somehow pierces through the parent-child noise barrier and gives validity and power to their words. Hey, it is what it is. I’m not complaining; instead, I’m grateful for that mysterious dynamic.

As a responsible parent, you are going to have to consciously define your village and then make sure your child stays within its confines, lest he fall prey to the values and behaviors of our ever-degrading society ... forced to grow up far quicker than their developmental maturity will allow. This is the modern-day village at work.
And what is this notion that minorities can’t get a photo ID? Are we so inferior, incompetent,and fundamentally unintelligent that we can’t do what everyone else in the country is required to do? Is the task of sitting down in front of a government agency camera so daunting that minorities need special exemptions?
